The Gulf Fritillary is a bright orange butterfly with a wingspan of 6-9.5 cm. Its underwings are buff, with large silvery spots. It takes its name from the fact that migrating flights of the butterflies are sometimes seen over the Gulf of Mexico. The species is exotic to Hawaii, and common along the south coast of the Big Island.

I took this during one of my tech trips to Hilo, Hawaii. Sometimes I feel blessed working on an "isolated" island chain in the middle of the Pacific. The foggy effect was from the fact that it was a VERY muggy day. And no matter what I did the lens began to fog up.
